The San Benito County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA) was recognized by the County of San Benito and founded in 1970. Originally, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association was affiliated and represented by the local Teamsters Union. In 1997, law enforcement was recognized as a distinct professional field with members that have unique bargaining issues and needs that were different than those of the heavy equipment operators and professional drivers that the Teamsters Union generally represent. Thus the DSA restructured and broke away from the Teamsters Union, forming its own independent and recognized bargaining group under the more appropriate and specific public safety umbrella to address the concerns and needs of its public safety members during bargaining.
Presently the Deputy Sheriff’s Association represents and is compromised of the 37 sworn men and women of Public Safety within the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, through the rank and file of Deputy Sheriff through Sergeant, San Benito County Probation Officers and the Investigators of the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office.
Our goal has always remained steadfast to partnering with our community in order to provide quality service and to strive to ensure each of our members have the training, equipment and the necessary support to safely, efficiently and effectively serve our community as public safety professionals. The members of the San Benito County Deputy Sheriff’s Association have proudly served the citizens and community of San Benito County for over 40 years. The DSA is passionate about investing in our shared community by giving back through contributions to local organizations and hosting charity events. The DSA demonstrates our commitment to the community through donating and participating in the G.R.E.A.T Program, participating in the Every 15 Minutes Program at San Benito High School, sponsoring community youth athletic programs, supporting the Special Olympics, giving and participating in the Sheriff’s Office Youth Explorer program and our annual programs such as food and toy drives, National Night Out, and the “Lisa Koehler College Scholarship.”
